As a government group of hospitals and clinics discovered, the management of business office and pharmacy operations can be made more efficient with SCS' iPharm system.
iPharm was implemented to consolidate the group's various pharmacy systems and operations into a single instance. The group's server, network and desktop support were also outsourced to SCS. With these, the group was able to:
Lower operating, support and licensing costs for all pharmacies due to the centralised application and use of thin browser-based clients
Reduce the number of dispensing errors with the use of the integrated electronic prescription, which would decrease even further once the system is integrated with the automated pharmacy dispensing machinery in 2006
Provide management with detailed revenue and cost analysis through the use of OLAP, as the iPharm system can be seamlessly integrated into existing hospital information systems
The iPharm system supports two hospitals and nine clinics; handling 11,000 prescriptions and over 40,000 drugs per day. It is in use 24x7 with an average response time of around one second with more than 150 users. Two more hospitals are expected to join the system in 2006.
