Electronic Meal Ordering System- Overview

The Electronic Meal Ordering System (EMOS) is an easy-to-use web-based application aimed at improving the operational efficiency of meal deliveries in hospital wards while incorporating other value-added features such as the dietary assessment of meals.

The application allows nursing staff to record patients' meal orders using a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) at the patient's bedside or via a browser. Various meal options are available depending on patient's medical condition and the patient can make a choice, which is then processed by the application. The system eliminates the chore of daily ordering for long-staying patients by automatically generating meals orders based on their preferences or diet.

The time-consuming and error prone manual diet card consolidation process is eliminated as the system will automatically generate diet cards at pre-defined duration. With regards to meal preparation, the system collates all meal orders and automatically generates summary lists which is essential for stock withdrawal and chef cooking.

EMOS interfaces with existing Hospital Patient Information System on real-time basis, leading to accurate tracking of patient movement. Patient meal orders will be managed automatically by EMOS with patient discharge and transfer.

It also interfaces with third party supply chain solutions such as SAP for the extraction of Material Master and Good Receipt Transactions, and for efficient inventory management.

Key components of the system include:

  • Access control module
  • Meal orders module
  • Meal collation module
  • Nutritional value analysis module
  • Food & beverage requisition module
  • Inventory control module
  • Reports module
